New Dental Patient Information – Cary, NC

Making Visiting the Dentist Simple & Enjoyable

Whether you’re visiting Dr. Koch for the first time or the hundredth time, you can expect the same personalized, consistent dental care at each of your appointments. We like to make the entire process, from the moment you call to schedule your appointment to when you leave, as easy and hassle-free as possible. That’s why we’ve included important information below, which we recommend all of our new dental patients in Cary look through before their appointments. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Your First Visit

We’ll start your first appointment by reviewing medical and dental history to get a clear idea of your dental needs and goals. Then, we capture digital X-rays and intraoral photos that can be viewed by the dentist and patient immediately on a chairside monitor. Then, our skilled dental hygienists carefully clean the surfaces of teeth, even those areas regular brushing and flossing does not access. They can also answer your at-home oral care questions, demonstrate best practices, and make product recommendations. Next, we carefully chart the position of any current restorations and the depth of gum pockets (space between teeth and gums). Our hygienist will also show educational videos and other helpful information whenever necessary. Finally, the dentist speaks one on one with each patient to answer any questions, make treatment recommendations, and develop a personalized treatment plan to meet individual needs and smile goals. If patients need extensive dental work, we’ll schedule another visit in order to continue treatment planning.

For healthy adult patients, our initial visit requires approximately 60 to 90 minutes and consists of the following:

Comprehensive dental exam including:

  • Review of medical and dental history
  • Head and neck exam
  • TMJ evaluation
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Evaluation of existing restorations (i.e. fillings, crowns, etc.)
  • Occlusion (“bite”) evaluation and assessment of tooth wear
  • Periodontal (“gum”) health assessment
  • Digital X-rays (full mouth series)
  • Digital photos (selected)
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Standard patient education and consultation with Dr. Koch

For adult patients with complex dental problems, significant treatment needs, or an interest in cosmetic dental treatment, our second visit requires approximately 30 to 40 minutes. This follow-up visit is performed at “no charge” and consists of the following:

  • Digital photos (complete)
  • Impressions of teeth for diagnostic models and bite registration.
  • Detailed patient education and consultation with Dr. Koch
